Big Drop Shot Fish

We have definitely reached summer. Temps have been in the 90’s for the last two weeks and fishing has changed. The bass are settling into their summertime patters now. In our case the bass have moved to the outside of the weed edges. I like this kind of set up because there is no guess work involved. They are on the edge of the weeds, period. It can be spotty, with more fish in certain areas then others and the size of the fish varies greatly but the last two days the drop shot has rewarded us nicely.

On Thursday evening Easton pulled out a 15 1/2″ largemouth. Our lake has never been know for having large fish but recently we introduced 100 Northern Pike to the lake to help control the fish population, it is working and the size of the average bass is getting bigger.

We are throwing our drop shots on 7 ft. drop shot rods with 10 lb fluorocarbon. We have the hook about two feet above the weight. We are using homemade hand poured worms, they are purple with blue flake. Not long after Easton caught his fish I got my hook into a 16 1/2 fish that made me look like Mike Iaconelli running all around the boat.

Friday evening we went back out and pulled in another 16 1/4″ bass. I am excited that we have been able to find some good fish this week and hopefully we can stay on them this summer.

Good luck and keep fishing. – Michael
