Creating vs. Documenting

I haven’t been very good recently about creating content to blog about. I try and think about this or that and end up putting it off. Sort of makes it feel like a homework assignment, I’ve never been that creative anyway. So I am going to turn my attention to documenting. This should make it easier since I won’t have to create something. So in the spirit of documenting the following pretty much sum up what we have been up to.

I have been trying to explain to my six year old son that we are catching bass. He understands the difference between largemouth and smallmouth but not the difference between bass and largemouth. In my world they are the same thing, it all just depends on how you want to describe what you are catching. Either way we have the discussion on every trip to the lake.

I have been buying a lot of frogs recently. I don’t have much reason too because the lake we fish on 99% of the time doesn’t have the type of cover for frog fishing. My frog supply needed restocked anyway, mostly because we never use them and they have pretty much melted to the tackle box. Based on what I have seen on Instagram (follow @buckhorn_fishing for more documenting) people have been catching big bass on frogs so it seems like a good idea to toss one around.

Drop shot doing work.

The past week or two I have caught 75% of my fish on a drop shot. I am mostly fishing it along weed edges in 10-15 ft. I have done best with almost two foot between the weight and the hook. I have been catching them on my homemade drop shot worms in plum color with blue flake. My other fish are coming of a shaky head or wacky rigged senko. I normally don’t like to fish a senko when I am fishing for fun because that can turn into an expensive fishing trip but my son likes to throw them and didn’t think I could catch any fish on them. – Michael
